Latest Update: Flights to Bali Now Back to Normal After Mount Lewotobi Eruption in June 2025

The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki on Tuesday (17/06) caused concerns about flight disruptions, particularly to popular destinations like Bali. The twin volcano, located in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, released volcanic ash more than 11 kilometers into the air at 5:35 PM WITA.

According to the Geological Disaster Mitigation and Volcanology Center (PVMBG), this eruption was of the Strombolian type, spewing ash, volcanic sand, and small rocks. With such a massive ash cloud, several airlines took quick action, delaying or rerouting flights to avoid the affected area.

Ngurah Rai Airport: Operations Running as Usual

Here’s the good news: Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali is operating normally. Although there were initial concerns that volcanic ash could affect flight visibility, the latest tests show no impact.

On Wednesday (18/06), a paper test was conducted around the airport to check for volcanic ash. The results confirmed that no ash particles were detected on the runway or in the surrounding air.

Wahyudi, the General Manager of Ngurah Rai Airport, reassured that all flight operations continue as usual. This is backed up by the NOTAMN (Notice To Airmen) Number A1704/25 and NOTAMC A1420/25, which state that the airport remains in “normal operation.”

87 Flights Affected, but Not to Bali

While 87 flights were impacted due to the eruption, the majority of disruptions occurred in areas near East Nusa Tenggara and other smaller airports, not directly at Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali.

Affected airlines have made the necessary adjustments, and most flight schedules have already returned to normal since the afternoon of June 18.
